Tips & FAQs

  1. Where can I buy FoodSource Lures?

FoodSource Lures are available at stores across the United States, including most Wal-Mart stores.  Visit the Where To Buy section of our website for more information.  You also can buy online.  FoodSource lures are available in several other countries, as well.
  2. Avoid extreme heat

FoodSource lures are made from food, not plastic.  Therefore, you need to take a little extra care with them.  They don't need to be refrigerated, but you should keep them away from extreme heat and prolonged direct sunlight.  If they get hot and feel soft, just cool them down and they'll be fine.
  3. Keep bag sealed

FoodSource lures should be kept sealed in the bag when not in use.  If the bag is accidentally left open for too long and the lures feel a little stiff, just put a little water in the bag with the lures and they'll return to normal consistency.
  4. My FoodSource lures don't feel the same as soft plastics. Why?

FoodSource lures are made from food, not soft plastic.  They are designed to feel natural like a minnow or other natural food sources.  They are not supposed to feel as soft as soft plastics.  Not only do FoodSource lures feel and taste more natural to fish, the firmness helps them stay on the hook better.  If you think they are a little too firm right out of the bag, just fish with them for a while and they'll limber up.  Or, you can put a little water in the bag and let it soak in if you want softer lures.
  5. Can people eat FoodSource lures?

Yes and no.  FoodSource lures are edible by fish and other wildlife (dogs, cats, horses, cows, raccoons, alligators ... pretty much all of Day 5 and most of Day 6).  All of the basic ingredients of FoodSource lures are approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for use in animal food as well as human food.  However, they are not manufactured or stored in conditions that would satisfy human food requirements.  In addition, to some lures we add small amounts of glitter or a scent such as bloodworm oil, and you wouldn't want to eat those.  Simply put, FoodSource lures are designed for fish, not people.  For best results, don't eat your bait.  Save it for the fish.

  6. What's wrong with soft plastic lures?

Do you like to eat plastic?  Neither do fish.  For more information, click herehere and here.
  7. Are all biodegradable lures the same?

We don't think so.  FoodSource lures are made of 100% real food.  Fish actually can eat and digest them, and will grow in size.  Other lures that claim to be biodegradable are made of plastic polymers like the kind found in glue.  They might be biodegradable after months or years in a compost pile, but the water is a different environment.  And, more importantly, unlike FoodSource lures, those other "biodegradable" lures aren't food for the fish.
